One day, many years ago, the artist and his wife, mused, as they often do, the meaning of life, death, and every thing in between. They adventured through the lands of mysteries and dreams, facts and numbers, and what does it all mean? Who are we in this world of confusion, chaos, contingency? What is love, the authentic kind of love? From whom do we learn how to love? From whom do we learn self-worth, self-acceptance? What is Happiness? Who has it? How do they know? How does one measure success, failure? Books such as Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxies, Song of Solomon, Lost is the Cosmos: The Last Self-Help book, The Bible, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Popol Vuh, The Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, Pythagoras, Beowulf, The Light of Egypt, The Boy who Saw True, The Great Divorce, Notes from Underground and more became guides in our quest to understand ourselves and the world around us. All of these literary beacons animated conversations that led to the Artist and friends writing on the wall. "I Am Brain" "Don't call God's garden black magic" "Miracles are not contrary to nature. Miracles are contrary to what we think we know about nature"(Augustine). They pondered the concept of interconnectivity in fractals and sacred geometry. Dr. Absurd, interested in patterns, drew triangles and spheres upon the wall and overlaid them with concepts such as Zeitgeist, Morality, Ego. He considered how our zeitgeist influences how we feel and behave. Dr. Absurd dove into the depths of the human condition and its effects on our spiritual self. Years passed. The wall and its illuminations stood still. Then Covid happened, then all the stuff we've already "forgotten" happened, and every thing in between happened. He turned to Excel. He recorded daily deaths. She turned to stories, stories about the Black Death. They both turned to comedy as they needed to laugh. As quarantine droned, he received a 3D printer for his lockdown birthday. He was going through pics on his phone when he came across the spheres he patterned upon the wall four years ago. It was an "Ah-ha!" moment, an instant connection, a compulsion to make the spheres come to life in an effort to understand our human condition and how it filters the context in which we live. The current times, our zeitgeist, now, curated the 3D Functional Art presented to you in this gallery. We thank you for visiting us on this journey. We hope this art supports you when you feel alone, and encourages you not to be so hard on yourself. We hope it provides you with signposts in this strange land.
